Ron Sloy provided introduction of Steve Ford, speaker at NWUCA Convention in Sunriver, Oregon
July 7, 2016
At this year’s Convention of the Northwest Utility Contractor’s Association on Saturday, June 4 in Sunriver, Oregon, Ron Sloy introduced Steve Ford, the son of the former President Gerald R. Ford and Betty Ford. A chance encounter with the former President and Mrs. Ford in Palm Desert, California gave a particularly clever flourish to Ron’s introduction.
Steve was a good fit for presenter, as he had the unparalleled experience of being the former President’s child. At 18-years-old, Steve’s life was shadowed by the presence of ten Secret Service agents, always at his side. Beyond that, Steve experienced first-hand his father’s pardon of President Nixon in deference to the contemptible Watergate scandal. Additionally, Steve dealt with the more personal matters of the attempts of assassination on his father as well as his mother’s alcoholism and breast cancer.
